Solar Energy Benefits – Solution to Energy Crisis
Solar energy benefits are becoming more apparent each day. Even with the technological advances we have today, much of the energy we use still comes from crude fossil fuel. We rely on it mainly to power our cars, and generate most of our electricity. Using fossil fuel as energy source has its benefits, but it is also hard to deny the fact that much of the pollution we experience today is a result of fossil fuel burning. The energy we relied so much for decades is fast depleting. With our current rate of consumption, experts say that the supply of fossil fuel would only last for 35 years more.
The solution is a renewable source of energy. Unlike the fossil fuel we use to generate electricity, renewable source of energy has a huge potential to become an unlimited and steady source which means we can all enjoy long lasting energy for years to come. Some of the renewable energy sources available today are solar energy, wind energy, and hydro power.
Using a solar panel, we can utilize the energy from the sun, and convert it into electricity. Solar energy is probably the most utilized renewable energy today simply because it is readily available everywhere. Anyone can install a solar panel on their rooftops even in the middle of a busy city as long as there is a good source of sunlight. The installation cost and the maintenance for a solar panel is also less compared to other alternative sources.
Solar energy is not only limited to electricity production. Other available solar application includes solar heater which helps keep household temperature comfortable during the night, and solar cooker which cooks food using only the suns heat.
For households located near farm lands, wind power is the best energy source for you. This type of energy source requires wide open areas and strong winds. Using a device called wind generator, you can utilize the winds energy and convert it into electricity.
Hydro power is another renewable energy source. It utilizes the power from huge bodies of water like lakes and rivers to generate electricity. Hydro power requires huge dams to operate. Most of the electricity generated from renewable energy today comes from hydro power. However, the total electricity generated from renewable energy sources is just a small fraction of the total global energy production. Much of our energy still comes from fossil fuel burning.
Hopefully, renewable energy can soon catch up and become a standard for electricity production. Using energy sources like solar power, wind power and hydro power can greatly reduce energy prices, and help reduce pollution as well.
